The Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON) has implemented a strict set of standards, namely the Standards Organization of Nigeria Conformity Assessment Program (SONCAP)
SONCAP verifies the conformity of all products esported to Nigeria except those that appear on the Excluded Product List and enforces their standards.Compliance to SONCAP requirements is applicable in addition to any existing import processes.
In January 2013, the Standards Organization of Nigeria(SON) officially released new SONCAP process with a completely revised conformity assessment structure. The program is a set of conformity assessment and inspection procedures applicable to all products imported into Nigeria expect those under the exemption list.
SONCAP requirements are as follows:
1.each batch of regulated products to be imported must attach a Certificate of Compliance (COC) and the SONCAP certificate issued by the SON
2.the Certificate of Conformity (COC) is necessary for the follow-up of SONCAP certificate.
3.Certificate of Conformity (COC) to ensure that products comply with relevant technical regulations of Nigeria and recognized by international and regional national standards.
4.Is the product of the import customs clearance in Nigeria SONCAP certificate mandatory documents.
5.Nigerian authorities may random sampling from the import of goods to confirm product conformity degree.

In addition to the NAFDAC of Nigeria control products, SONCAP covers all products. In addition, inspection-exempted products include:
Food
Drug
Medical supplies (except for equipment and machinery)
Used as raw materials of chemical weapon equipment
Aviation related products
The industrial machine for production
Second-hand products (excluding cars)
Provide legal producers component of all the parts group of bicycle, motorcycle, automobile.
